Anthony Ranaudo MLB jerseys sale

Sometimes, though, first impressions aren’t always the best ones.

Ranaudo allowed 10 homers in 39.1 innings over seven starts last year after an August callup. He had more walks (16) than strikeouts (15). And he compiled a 4.81 ERA.

The number, however, that may be most telling: 177.

That’s the number of innings Ranaudo pitched between the minors and majors. It represented a professional high, surpassing the previous high by nearly 40 innings, or the entirety of his time in the majors. Most clubs try to jump pitchers innings by increments of 20 30 innings per season.

As a result of the workload, Ranaudo, who was acquired for Robbie Ross last week, felt his velocity and the explosiveness on his four seam fastball (his primary pitch) waned as the year went on.

“I think I learned a lot from the experience,” Ranaudo said Tuesday before working out with several teammates during a brief visit to the area. “I learned the major league strike zone and I learned the difference between a strike and a quality strike in the major leagues.

“I also think I was a little fatigued down the stretch and that led to a little tail on my ball,” he added. I’d try to go away and my fastball would drift back towards the middle of the plate.”

Ranaudo said his fastball averaged about 92 95 mph during his time with Triple A Pawtucket last year, but acknowledged a drop when he reached the majors. According to Brooks Baseball, which tracks pitch data, he averaged 92.4 mph in the majors. The velocity dropped from 92.78 mph in his three August starts to 91.96 in his four September starts.

Ranaudo, who threw a bullpen session for pitching coach Mike Maddux on Monday, said that he spent the winter planning on coming to camp with a “refreshed mind and a refreshed arm,” before the Red Sox acquired a slew of major Cheap Jerseys
league veterans that left him on the fringes of the rotation. The trade to the Rangers gives him a chance to compete with , Nick Tepesch and Nick Martin jersey cheapez jersey cheap for the fifth spot in the Rangers rotation.

“If my name is in that mix, great,” he said. “But I’m not really as concerned about pecking order as I am about just coming in and competing. I just want to do what I can and compete hard for an opportunity.”
